Dan, I really like this shot. The backlighting gives almost a monochromatic quality to the image, but then is set aside with the red and blue text on the sail. The lines of tension in the sail add dynamic interest, and you can feel the struggle in play here. The lone silhouetted figure pulling against the wind and chop (and on another level, pulling against the isolation of a visually uninhabited city) creates a connection between subject and viewer, which is something usually not easily achieved. The only nit I have to pick is the lopped-off tip of the sail; this could be remedied by a tighter crop, perhaps in a more "panoramic" aspect ratio where the top of the frame falls between the "470" and "USA", the width being unaltered. Barring that, shoot wider next time ;-) and as a last resort, rebuild the top using editing software (a process I don't particularly endorse, but mention for the sake of being thorough).

Great photograph, Dan! Keep up the good work!

Thanks Darin, great to get a real critique like that!

Ditto on the clipping of the mast... but, to my defense, its hard shooting a 3d subject from a 3d platform :) . Will experiment with some panoramic crops and see what i can get.

I also have a series i shot last week that has a couple of similar photos; i dont think the water looked quite as cool though. I'll try and get them posted over the next couple of days.
