dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted March 15, 2008 I'm taking a stab at learning to colorize photos to look like old 50s and 60s photos. For comparison's sake, href="http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=6987443">HERE is the original. I don't really know what I'm doing yet, so if you have any pointers on technique, I'd appreciate them. Please visit href="http://www.dmogalleries.com">www.dmogalleries.com. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 16, 2008 Nothing I can tell you, because it already looks like you succeeded. The minute I opened this I thought it looked like a fifties postcard. Then I read your statement, and bingo. You've got it right. Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted March 16, 2008 Thanks, Dave. That's really encouraging. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted March 16, 2008 I think you need to work on reducing the vignetting. I can do that with my RAW editor but I've not checked to see if the PS editor will also do it. I think the effect you've achieved is very good, but if you are looking for a postcard type of '50s image then you'll need to goose up the saturation on the blues much more. Link to comment
axelg 3 Posted April 18, 2008 I like your retro colored series. You did a good work, both in choosing a retro subject and then applying your "PS-magic". This one tends to have too much green IMO. I did pretty much the same work with my fake Polaroid folder - cropping pictures to squares and playing with color levels/saturation/blur, then adding a Polaroid frame. I would be interested to see more of yours. Best regards, Axel G. Link to comment
dennisdixson 0 Posted November 25, 2008 This happens to be one of my favorite Chicago signs and as you know there are many to choose from. There are also some good photos of this one over at http://www.flickr.com I think the vignette adds a 50s box camera look. Maybe not so much of a postcard type image but retro looking for sure. dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted November 25, 2008 Thanks, Dennis. This sure is a great sign. I hope this place sticks around for a while, although I see that luxury condos are already creeping onto the block, so it can't last long. Link to comment
