wingell 0 Posted March 13, 2008 Here's a shot of antiwar priest and fugitive Father Daniel Berrigan leaving a Philadelphia church in August 1970 after surfacing briefly to deliver a sermon. The Jesuit priest and his late brother, Daniel, also a Catholic priest, had been convicted with seven other Catholics of destroying draft records at the Catonsville, Maryland, Selective Service office. Sentenced to three and a half years in federal prison, both priests went underground; Philip was captured within days but Daniel remained at large for four months. Three days after this photo was taken, Daniel was captured by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Daniel later wrote the play, "The Trial of the Catonsville Nine." Link to comment
