keithostertag 0 Posted March 12, 2008 Sorry, but to be honest no amount of nice light can save this view directly into someone's backside...maybe it's because the hands have no reason to be posed like that but I can't help feeling you have missed the mark with this one. Man Ray's image is erotic, your image seems too forced. I can't figure out exactly why... the focus is too soft, the hands are just not naturally placed- they look protective (like- Oh, don't look here!) rather than erotic. You have some really nice nudes in your portfolio, this one just doesn't work, IMHO. Link to comment
tanyatruong 0 Posted March 12, 2008 for your input. The fact is i don't want to copycat exactly what Man Ray did, but i also see your point. I am very inspired by "the prayer", and i am actually thinking of different variants to retake this photo which i will post in the next few days. Keith, I hope you will revisit and give me your input. About the hand placement, it may look odd to you, but i translate it as "embracing with love". Well! I am sure it will be translated differently by another viewer. Thanks again for taking your time to give an in-depth input. Best regards, Tanya. Link to comment
tanyatruong 0 Posted March 12, 2008 Can you imagine if you will take me to the museums and art galleries in Europe?. My imagination and inspiration would stretch even further :o). Link to comment
morophaenixmau 17 Posted April 6, 2008 Nice the idea but, for me, a bit too much out of focus!...Ciaomau! Link to comment

JPPhoto1664880217 5 Posted December 26, 2008 I am not quite speechless. I like this image, in particular the way the lighting, the use of B&W, and focus all work together to give the desired effect, which is "don't look there". One minor nit is the area to camera left, to my eye this is too bright and draws the eye away from the subject. Jim Phelps Link to comment
tanyatruong 0 Posted December 27, 2008 I appreciate your comment but i don't necessary agree with your perception of the image. In fact, the light on the left, to me, leads to what appears very elusive on the right. You are right in your own view though. How we make the image and how it is interpreted by the viewer is very subjective, and it depends on so many factors. Recently i came across a book by photographer Chris Weston that i really like a lot. He said: "While the process of image captured is based on science, photographic exposure is opened to artistic interpretation. What one photographer considers an accurate exposure, in that it captures the mood or essence of a scene as he/she saw it, another may consider inaccurate because it fails to conform to pre-defined technical rules." Jim! You might have been pre-occupied with the knowledge of "photographic rules" while viewing this image. This photo is more about the mood that it wanted to evoke anyway. BTW, i am terrible at following any rule, and it's my bad, i don't follow instructions well neither (Yikes! No wonder why i am so slow at learning and progressing at anything. After all, we are creatures of our own habits.) Thanks for taking your time to comment, Jim. Happy Holidays to All (just being spiritual but not religious.) Link to comment
Art X Photography 1 Posted January 1, 2009 Hi Tanya, congrats on this image. I find this image a little curious. on the one hand the clarity of the sheets draws my attention (as does the white colour) and yet my mind's eye draws me to the composition. I think your title for this is perfect based on that composition. personally i would have liked to have seen clarity in the hands even if the rest was blurred. I think that may have added something more when viewed with the title. That said I reiterate my sincere congratulations on your capture. Link to comment
JPPhoto1664880217 5 Posted January 3, 2009 It was a very minor nit. I like the image a great deal because of the mood/emotional response it evokes in me. And I have been known to break a few rules myself. Jim Phelps Link to comment
tanyatruong 0 Posted January 5, 2009 ...to ALL. Thanks for taking your time to visit and comment all my work. I can appreciate the differences in opinions/perspectives about what/how each of us view art/life, and that's make life interesting anyway. Each of your visit keeps the flow of creative energy streaming out of me. Thanks again my fellow photographers. Wishing Year 2009 with lot of fun and creativity in YOU coming abundantly. Art & Jim! One day...in my mood...i will re-shoot this image...hmmm...from a different angle/composition. Hope you will still enjoy a different perspective:o). Warm regards, tanya Link to comment
claudiu_paizan 0 Posted January 6, 2010 Hey Tanya, nice, but makes me wonder: artistic nude or abstract?!... hmmmm.... both of them, I guess . For a nude I think it's a need for a little bit (or more) focus on skin. More contrasted shadows lines from left would make it more dramatic. For an abstract one, more blur (much more) will release imagination of the viewer. Anyway, I really like this one as well!
