I got some much better light this time.

 

For those of you in the US we had a huge low pressure weather system,

when this happens there is only one place to go...Thats me on the

cliff with a 1200m cable release! ;-)

 

Captured using a 70-200 f4L IS +1.4xII f6.3 1/640th.

 

The Cornish sea was exactly as predicted. I watched the waves break

in a very strange and almost eerie slow motion upon arrival, trying

to reference them against anything man made. I would hazard a guess

they were around 60foot+, twice the height of house.

 

The most comical thing was watching a wave throw an orange buoy (that

was being tossed around in the water) a staggering 100ft into the air

on impact with a cliff. The buoy shot vertically upwards and was then

carried off by the wind into a nearby field!! Classic stuff.

You captured it well. I live near Dover and I'm heading out that way tomorrow.

 

I don't know where you can get a 200m cable release though, I reckon I'll just use the timer and make a sprint for it?

The power of the sea and the soft tones offer an unusual but natural contrast. Certainly makes me wish I were there.

The light and composition here certainly trump your previous (but impressive in its own right) attempt. Must have been quite the sight to be out there!

This is just spectacular! The question I have is this - is that a person standing by the railing by the little concrete house? If so, well, you couldn't pay me to stand up there during that. Gorgeous photograph! Cheers! Chris

A quite spectacular photograph David. The explosion of the wave against the cliff is fabulous. Having spent many years at sea with the Navy, I have seen the awesome power of the sea on many occasions. With this photograph I think you have managed to capture the feeling of that power to perfection. Just take care out there.

Younes - I actually got some light this time, although it didnt last as long as I had hoped. The spray was horrendous and I lost a few impacts from cleaning the front element with kitchen roll! I much prefer this shot.

 

Chris - yes it is a person, his hood has blown off his head and he's clutching onto the railings. There were as man as four people and a dog at one point.

 

Vincent - According to GPS information the tower is at 55m so that is 180ft. If you take the height of the explosion that has to be another 20m heigher,so thats got to be about 245ft high! There were explosions totally out of frame that must have been well over 300ft, but the spray was carried by the wind a lot.

 

 

Stupendous picture and perfect title. I am very impressed and completely taken by this spectacular vista. It should be a 10/10 but I will give it only 7/7...sorry.
