Rosa's Railroad

cris benton

This photograph and most of the others I have posted on Photo.net are taken from kite-lofted cameras. A kite, unseen in the image, supports a small, radio-controlled cradle that holds the camera. I can position the camera by walking around and/or letting out or retrieving kite line. I aim the camera and fire its shutter using the radio while I stay at the ground end of the kite line. The camera can rotate through the compass, tilt from horizon to nadir, and change from portrait to landscape format.I compose my images by watching the camera and imagining what it would see. The whole process entertains me to no end.

This is a side track for rail car storage in Fremont. Would you

'retouch' trash lying about or leave it as it is?

The photo is very good as it is. For the net I would remove some distracting white points. For printing (and this photo deserves to be printed) I would probably remove some trash that can also be distracting. But that's just my opinion. I insist, the photo is very good, congratulations.

Cris, you have a tremendous eye for "lines" and the flow of an image. This looks to be another of your kite shots and I am in awe of the whole technique, what a fresh angle on our world. You note in your bio that you are an architect and I find myself wondering if a person professionally prepared in architecture has a better eye for lines and perspective, or does a person with a natural eye for form and shape and line become an architect?
