abstract Playground 09

I was inspired by Linda McLellan (I am often inspired by Linda McLellan!) to get out and shoot at a local playground. There were fewer children around this playground than there were at Linda's ... but the weather conditions were a bit different, too. :-)

 

My focus wasn't so philosophical as Linda's. I was looking to shoot shadows and the contours in the snow ... but ended up finding great shadows on the snow, and not many contours.

 

This will probably be the last in this series (at least for now). I will likely get back to the OKC Memorial stuff later this week.

Lou Ann, I had just typed a response to one of your other playground pics, saying that I had preferred the B&W version, and at the risk of repeating my comments I sincerly feel exactly the same with this one. I really do. The attached image (if you don't mind me messing about with your stuff) is what convinced me that this image is prime B&W material.

Thanks, Mike - I really think that ALL of the playground images could be great B&W's. I kept them in color for this series just because I was SO taken with the great bright colors against the snow in the background. But I always appreciate seeing other people's versions!

..but then again Lou Ann, wouldn't children themselves simply hate to have all B&W playgrounds..... ;=)

I see Mike's point, and frankly I'm just beginning to be an advocate of B&W (need to try some myself), but I actually love the color version of this. I love the contrast and it has lovely lines as well.

Another nice one. I see the argument for both b&w and color. The b&w accentuates the curves of the bars more to me, but I really like the contrast between the bright green of the bars and the white of the snow in the color version. You can't go wrong either way.

For me, the color wins big time. In the B&W you can't really appreciate how "loved" this playground gem is, witness the rusting areas on the rungs.

Lou Ann, you saved the best for last! this is my absolute favorite of the bunch...especially since i can picture you climbing on this to get this shot. i hope it wasn't slippery. it looks pretty dry. this is a progression of smiles!...and the color is best hands down!

Linda - I'm SO glad that you're pleased! I don't even know that I would have thought to stop at this playground if I hadn't just been looking at your playground images.

 

In fact, those are not my footprints at the bottom. I tried really hard not to make many new prints, getting on and off the contraptions nearer to the roadways so that I wouldn't ruin the snow. There weren't a lot of footprints around to begin with, but the ones that were just in front of this ladder really seemed newer than the rest. Hmmm.... :-)

 

It was really quite a contraption, this playground. It is huge, and is almost possible to walk around the whole thing without getting down on the ground. I'll attach an image that I think should show you how it worked......
