squiver 0 Posted March 9, 2008 This shot was taken in the desert of north Namibia. Life here is extremely tough. Even though the Oryx you see here don't need any water to survive - they get all their moisture from the vegetation they eat - last season was so dry there simply wasn't enough food for these animals. Everyday I saw Oryx dying of starvation, a horrible sight. Link to comment

ryourth 0 Posted March 9, 2008 Beautiful image, like the sinuous lines of the sand dunes & all the tones of the one colour. The Oryx shows the huge size of the dunes. It is sad to think how such a lovely scene can be such a harsh environment at the same time. Best Regards-Ross Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted March 9, 2008 I love this shot! I spend a lot of time in North America's great deserts, but they are nothing to the Namib. The wind is blowing very hard in this image; sand is moving everywhere. I like the repetition in the shapes of the three primary dunes too. The five or six oryx are important to the composition and placed well. Excellent work! Cheers! Chris Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted July 25, 2008 Stunning image and the head down postures of the oryx really finalizes the story being told.... an excellent shot! Mike Link to comment
mccarthyemulsion 0 Posted November 19, 2008 Reminds me of a Galen Rowell image, similar composition, and similar contrast between the size of the dunes and the animals below. http://www.mountainlight.com/gallery.classics/images.html Link to comment
