mauroni 0 Posted March 2, 2008 In such case I don't look for originality, but for a symbolic communication. What do you think of this picture? Thank-you in advance. Mauro Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted November 19, 2008 Frankly, I'm surprised this hasn't garnered a little more attention. I can't quite put my finger on why I like this so much. It's a bit fuzzy, and the colors aren't very vivid........but in this instance I think it works so well with the sun casting its spell on everything. It has more of a dream-like effect, with the various emblems providing a symbolic representation of America. I think it's very effective. Bravo! Link to comment
mauroni 0 Posted November 19, 2008 Hi Christal, and first of alla thank-you for you kind and warm words. I reckon that the supposed lack of attention to this picture is due to at least two factors: 1) I published it only a few days after my adhesion to PN so I didn't have a network of contact as huge as now [e.g. Ididn't meet you yet :-) ]; 2) the overall quality of the picture, from a technical point of view, is not that great (it has been taken with a compact digital cameras with 4 or 5 Mpixels resolution). From a communicative point of view I wanted to put together two different "channels": the "emotional" one, that is probably the more visible and the less original and interesting and the "political" one: USA as a land of freedom (the Statue) a land where people feel and knowì they belong to a great country (the flag) and a land of possibilities where one can decide how and where to live and how and when to leave (the plane). Is it a romantic idea? Yes it is. Am I aware that the USA as a country and a social system have a lot of defects and in some cases it's much more "cruel" than the old european systems? Yes I am; nevertheless as an European that love to think to itself as a cosmopolitan person I find that some of the most radicated american values (freedom, tolerance, equality, right for everyone to self-determine his/her own destiny) are the basis of our modern way of living. And this picture want to be a tribute to these values. Cheers from a country of the old Europe. Mauro Link to comment
