These are the hill tribes of northern Thailand bordering Burma.They

are being kept virtual prisoners by their government.Many of the

young ones have been given visas to resettle in Australia and New

Zealand, but their government refuses to let them leave.They are far

too important to their tourist industry.The slave trade is still

alive and well.The younger girls are now revolting by removing their

rings.

stunning truth about this culture. Thank you for my newly learned knowledge. Its ashame that such a long time practice and part of their culture must be changed just for the revolt (even though it is the best thing they could do).

Great shot though, I love the colors and the heavy vignetting.

I understand, however, that the removal of these rings brings serious medical problems. Their neck muscles have atrophied, the shoulder blades depressed, and thus they find it difficult to support their head...It's truly tragic...Bert
