Days of Wine and Roses

snapshooter

Exacta VX, Novoflex & 300mm Schneider lens mounted on a rifle stock grip with trigger cable release. I certainly wouldn't try this in todays world.

Another of JFK speaking at a U.A.W rally in Detroit. More info in

Details.

Not a very good shot but still a significant moment in time.

Perhaps not technically perfect, but I think the interest lies in seeing an iconic figure in a photograph that most people probably have never seen before. It's also interesting in that the facial expression and positioning really seems to complement the strong light from the sun and how it's hitting his face. He seems to be taking some great pleasure in the apparent warmth the light communicates. MP

Thank you all for your kind comments and your time. You are much appreciated.

Micki... I have very few of the original negatives of the ten years I spent at the Windsor/Detriot TV station. I guess I left over 10,000 negatives there when I moved to Toronto. The only ones I have are from assignments that I developed at home after hours/weekends. Everything else I usually developed in the station darkroom.

I'll keep looking though.

Wow - really cool Doug - I must admit the thumbnail took me aback for a minute - wasn't expecting to see this as a 'recent' upload - (-;

Thanks for sharing ....

I can't even imagine a time of optimism anymore. To me, this symbolizes hope and sadness. (I have the debates on right now, and all I see are tense, carefully modulated faces). Here, I can imagine JFK squinting into bright sunshine, the future. PLEASE POST MORE, and thank you for posting this one.

Doug, this is awesome. I think part of the wonder of it is that it is not in perfect focus. It adds a softness to the image, making him more real. Just fantastic. It truly takes me back in time.

Thank you all.... Ken, Donna, Margaret. I'd been looking for this negative for quite awhile without success. A few days ago my cousin sent me a snapshot of this, taken from the photo I had given his mom and dad 47 years ago. He wanted specific information to tag the back of it. It looked pretty faded (copy attached) so I tried cleaning it up a bit.

It actually was quite sharp Margaret, but I ran it through Dream Suite for a touch of diffusion and a slight tone.

What a wonderful image, for all the reasons viewers have already expressed. I miss the spirit of that time, and hope it will return someday; 2009 would be nice.
