dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted February 27, 2008 Who could ask for anything more? Seriously, I find the concentration of places like these in seedy neighborhoods to be very interesting. Your thoughts? Please visit href="http://www.dmogalleries.com">www.dmogalleries.com. Link to comment

dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted February 28, 2008 You know, Ton, the sign photos serve two purposes. First, I love the old signs, and I take a picture of every one I can find because they're gradually being removed as the interesting old buildings are replaced by new buildings with much less character--I want to document that which soon will be gone. Second, to be honest, there's a lot of laziness in photographing signs. It doesn't take much imagination on my part to photograph a sign--I let the interesting character of the signs provide the creativity. That doesn't mean they're bad photos, but it does mean that they're easy photos to acquire. Thanks for taking a look. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted February 28, 2008 that's being too modest since I've seen your work. I think it's a great project. Being from the other side of the ocean am I right in thinking they are from the fifties mostly? Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted February 28, 2008 Thanks for your kind words. My guess is most are from the 50s and 60s. Funny enough, if you look closely, almost all were made by the same company, White Way Sign. They appear to have a sign monopoly in Chicago and must make truckloads of money. Link to comment
