Another orchid. They're starting to become more and more interesting to me ... they sure are exotic flowers. I'm not sure how distracting the background on this one is. I tried a tight crop around the foremost flower, but didn't like it, so I backed up a bit to include more of the shallow part of the DOF. If you're wondering what the heck are flowers doing in Lou Ann's portfolio, read my comments on the first of these three images. What are your thoughts on this one?

LouAnn, I actually like the background in this one...not distracting to me at all. In fact, I think the greens and dark shadowy lines add a graphic appeal to this. Kind of like placing floral and striped accent pillows on a plain couch. Does that make any sense? Anyway, I really like it and the colors of this orchid are really beautiful.

I visited a flower and garden show this last weekend but I returned home with not a single image of an orchid. Thank you for showing them in place of the ones I did not photograph. I like orchids but I'd never try to grow one.

Lou Ann, I like the BG, adds interest to the composition, I like as well the angle of the flower, I do wish that the second one was less blurred but I understand that it was a bit behind. nice all together.

( prepared an olive photo for you, look at " mother earth" photo.)

Lovely flowers and a nice shot, Lou Ann.

I might suggest one lighting enhancement that would "suggest" more sharpness on the flower in the BG without sharpening it. I used PhotoShop's Render/Lighting command to selectively darken a triangle in the lower right third of the image. Food for thought attached. Your original is great.

Wish I could grow these. Alas, orchids despise air conditioning and I can't live without it.

Cheers !

Oh! I like that Alberta! Thanks for playing with it. I'm really no good with flower shots, and don't really like shooting flowers ... but was with my nephew, so that's what we did. But now that I've had a chance to shoot orchids, I have a new interest in them. So I will keep working on the shots that I have of orchids from that day, and will probably seek out new opportunities to shoot them. Maybe I'll go back to the Botanical Gardens in Buffalo (or in other cities?) or find some other ways to shoot them. But I doubt that I'll try to grow them. I'm okay with green house plants ... but not with actual FLOWERS.....
