hanna_cowpe 0 Posted February 21, 2008 Being the only angle I could get of the river, I cropped the right side to centralize the vanishing point of the river. Does it work, or does the left-sided entry look wrong? Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted February 21, 2008 I think this is just a beautiful image; and it looks terrific in black and white. This has amazing depth; I feel like I could step right into it and be standing on the cobbles by the stream. Very sharp details too. My only nit is the solitary stick poking in from the lower-left, but it isn't a big deal. I think your square crop works fine too. Well seen, Hanna. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
sumptee 0 Posted February 21, 2008 Hanna, I like your photo here, the concept is beautiful and it is a nice long exposure! My only suggestion is that it maybe a little to bright, have you trying lowering the brightness or exposure. I have, and I hope you don't mind taken the liberty of lower the brightness. To see what It would look like. I believe that it being so bright sorta washes out the picture. IMHO! LOL Tell me What you think! Jeremy Link to comment
eugenio_pastor_benjumeda 0 Posted February 21, 2008 I like this B&W, I think it's very good in the grey tones and in the composition. Congrats. Eugenio. Link to comment
laurentbaig 0 Posted February 22, 2008 I like the image. I don't like the rework by one of the posters. The stick that's poking in lower left is obrusive. I also like just the top half of the image by itself. Link to comment
bobbuck19 0 Posted February 22, 2008 The stick at bottom left bothers me, other than that I love it. Link to comment
jim craig 0 Posted February 22, 2008 Nice composition and taken from a nice perspective. I also like that you've converted it to B/W and a square format. I imagine the stick was out of reach or you would have done some "gardening", but it is in an easy spot to clone out. I can't say that I agree with the previous poster about darkening it up, it just blocked up and lost the shadow detail IMO. So, my vote is for "as is", minus the stick. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted February 22, 2008 Thankyou all for your response. I wondered how many would object to the stick, which I debated about and decided to leave. Not sure why. The 17-40L is a lovely lens which I have ignored too much and now realize I need to fish out of my bag more often. Funny that I ended up cropping the wide angle anyway *!* Jeremy, thanks for your alternative version and for taking the time to work it up. However the scene was very light, with the late low sun shining through the very mossy trees, with little deep shadow, and casting a pale wash over the scene. I used a polarizer to remove some, but not all, of the reflection off the wet stones. Link to comment
beaz 0 Posted February 24, 2008 Hanna, I believe the composition works fine with the side entry. I tend to enter this scene from the bottom left, snap the stick on my way by, play around on the rocky bank for a bit (with my new stick) then start wondering what's up river, tapping on the old mossy trees along the way. - Jerry Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted February 25, 2008 Jerry, just keep on walking. It's a wonderful place. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted February 29, 2008 Well, it's all been said before; lose the stick and just enjoy. Great shot and conversion... Mike Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted March 1, 2008 The composition works very well for me. The only thing is that the long (perhaps too long) exposure makes the river looks like a road or a solid surface. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted March 2, 2008 Hello Henri, I can understand your point of view about the exposure, but I guess it is a matter of preference. This is actually a wide stream which is a route for the salmon to the spawning grounds. It is very shallow and rather slow moving which, I think, may add to the smoothing effect. Link to comment
chens 0 Posted March 24, 2008 very good composition and details of trees. about the exposure i think it's a dilemma. regards. Link to comment
garydad 0 Posted March 29, 2008 Lovely image Hanna. It reminds me of a favorite spot of mine in the Smokies. I like the low perspective that you used here. (Thanks for commenting on my photo.) Link to comment

Landrum Kelly 64 Posted April 7, 2008 I love it like it is, Hanna. I read your comment on the 17-40. I am going to have to see what I can do with that lens. Right now it is in there gathering dust. --Lannie Link to comment
