I mentioned to Emilia that I was thinking about going out to shoot bricks as a study in textures. I believe that she is going to hold me to it. :-) So, here is one of the brick abstracts that I shot for Emilia.

It was just about sunset and I was SUPER cold. I had no business hand-holding when the shutter speed was 1/6". I'll need to go back and shoot this spot again when it's warmer out and a little bit lighter, so that I don't have to worry about being in a hurry or about hand holding. So, ignore the bit of fuzziness in the corner....

What are your thoughts?

I was going to mention the fuzzimess in the top corner but I see you beat me to it, therefore never mind...

I love abstract patterns in bricks. I'll be watching to see what your series comes up with. I have a few that I can lend you if you come up short on material.

Thanks everyone. Shawn - there aren't many more images in this batch. It was just too danged cold, and I wasn't dressed for walking around in it!

Great abstract, Lou Ann, how did you manage to blur the top bricks while keeping the bottom ones in such crisp focus? I mean it's not like the building moved, did it?

I'm not sure, Jack. I was standing at a bit of an angle. And I was using my wide lens really close, as if it were a macro. I wonder if it's a DOF thing? The corners were farther away from me than the center? Really, I have no idea....

This is my favourit! First, i like those colors. I like those shapes in the brick. Also you have captured that reflection so nicely in this window and looks good how you composed that window in this picture. You have done really very good work Lou Ann, thank you for sharing!

With best regards Emilia :D
