The historic portion of New Orleans was so colorful! And I am not only referring to the balloons and flags. :-) There were all sorts of interesting people all over. If you haven't looked yet, take a look at the two B&W images that I posted most recently. I met some interesting characters on the street. And when I went to a restaurant for lunch, a couple of people next to me started a great conversation with me, too. I think that something that I found very surprising, though, was the fact that there is no "open container" law (at least if it exists, it isn't enforced). I guess I've always lived in places where you don't see people walking down the street with an open cup/bottle of alcohol. Walking past people carrying these things in New Orleans startled me a bit at first. But these guys were obviously having a good time ... and it wasn't yet noon. :-)

Yes, New Orleans is a little "different." The attitude reminds me of an old Las Vegas, although the architecture is nothing alike. Been there several times, and never ceases to amaze.

Lou Ann, your comment about the open containers made me laugh. i will never forget the first time i left a bar and was offered a "go cup"! maybe you didn't notice we have drive through daiquiri shops too. pretty scary really.
