Great light. I like the contrast between the dense cloud and the lacy branches of the tree, peeping from each side of the central trunk.

There is so much captured in just one photograph, the spectrum of colors is extraordinary, blues, greens, reds, yellows........the competing textures in the mossy trunk of the tree, the sand and rock beneath it, the glassy smooth surface of the water, and then what I think is the best of all.......to the left of the tree, it's like winter, icy cold blues and grays, a leafless tree, then to the right, it looks like a warm summer evening. A lot to take in, great photo!

excellent - foreground is wonderful. the background seems to have some photoshop sharpening spasm (or something else)? otherwise, great composition.

A most unique composition... I will be the first to admit that I would never have seen this shot. With the beautiful sunset, the nice wispy tree to the side; I would have overlooked these roots and gone for the traditional shot. Very well done with the detail and vibrant colors. Thanks... Mike

Fantastic perspective and originality, but before I rate it I was wondering about exposure - with such a range clearly displayed, was this a single shot or multiple blend? Just looking at the most vivid orange of the sky, and the deepest sections between the roots - looks a little noisy, so was wondering whether it's been pushed too far. Love the subtle symmetry to this though, the one bare sapling peeking from the left, and the nearly-submerged stump on the right, but with the clouds to balance to whole thing. Truly well done, and if it's just one exposure, bloody brilliant!

Very unusual composition, excellent light and color. I suppose you might have used fill in flash, whatever you did the pin sharp dof between the foreground and far, the intimacy of pebbles under water and the flight of clouds, are well connected. Awesome idea!

Simon, the light, colours and details are amazing. The composition is not fully my taste but despite a more than beautiful picture. Bravo.

Congratulations! I would love to know more about the technical details, was it exposed 142 seconds as you write?

Thank for sharing this amazing photo!

Hi James and Roberto,

Some technical details. It is two RAW files of the same exposure developed about one stop apart and blended manually. It worked as one file but I wanted the quality to be good enough for a large print.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, I have been out enjoying the first sightings of the sun here in Scotland for some time!

Simon, this is truly a wonderful image...it speaks of strength & tranquility together at once. Your eye is very good to see this composition! I also love how you can just make out the fine detail of the soft moss and (underwater)stones in the foreground, too.

As I am still learning, I would love to know how you are manually blending the two images/exposures. I've been trying to research it and I've also tried my hand at a few different techniques, but it's nothing as good as this by far. If you might be willing to share your technique, I would certainly welcome an email from you! This is outstanding work!!! Congratulations again, Kristy :)
