aepelbacher 0 Posted February 10, 2008 This cathedral in New Orleans was very difficult to photograph - it is HUGE and the park in front of it has elements that "got in the way" of certain compositions that I wanted to try. Regardless, I got some shots that I really like. Some are more conventional architecture photography ... some are less so. I didn't want to play with the perspective on this because I love the sky. aepelbacher 0 Posted February 10, 2008 I also decided to try my newly-learned B&W adjustment layer approach to B&W conversion on this ... working with the blue and cyan sliders most dramatically to accentuate the sky. What are your thoughts on the B&W version? Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted February 10, 2008 Please see my alternate B&W version, attached within the comments on this image's discussion. Thank you for any comments/ratings. :-) Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted February 10, 2008 I can't beLIEVE that I spelled "Louisiana" incorrectly ... my browser has a spell check that TOLD me I had it wrong. AARRRGGGHHHH!!! Link to comment
steven_ej 0 Posted February 10, 2008 They both look great! My preference however, is for the color one. Great sky capture to go along with the magnificent building Lou Ann, congratulations!! Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted February 11, 2008 Louisiana or Loosyanna? As many ways as the name is pronounced I'm sure there are many different acceptable spellings. I prefer the color version and I think I'd like just a bit more cropped off the top of the image because as you've shown it to us I have the feeling that the clouds are toppling over onto me, and that my head is tilted all the way back because I'm looking straight up. With a bit less on top of the image I'd fee a bit more in balance. I love the contrast and the color tones of the building. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 11, 2008 Is this the Church' attempt to construct a rocket to reach Heaven, a kind of modern-day version of the Babal story? Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted February 11, 2008 Thanks, guys! Jack - look at the other shot I have of this cathedral in the same folder. It's more a problem of standing really close and using a very wide lens than a Babel kind of thing. :-) Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted February 11, 2008 this is my favorite of your cathedral shots. this is probably the most photographed place in New Orleans (N'Awlins to natives) and this is a perspective i don't think i've seen before. also LOVE the sky! Link to comment
bradkim 8 Posted February 12, 2008 Looks like the clouds are falling down on this cathedral... Great capture, Lou Ann! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted February 12, 2008 Thanks, everyone. Linda - come back again in a few days, I'll have a couple more of this cathedral and then some other shots from elsewhere in NO. :-) Link to comment
