mg 0 Posted February 8, 2008 Beautiful light and good composition. Very nice colors too, but in my opinion a bit over-saturated. And the over-exposed top of this pillar is a little issue as well. Regards. Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted February 8, 2008 I'm not sure you can oversturate a surreal image. I love this -- Hopper on acid. Regards... Link to comment
matthewe1 0 Posted February 8, 2008 I like saturated red and green. The pillar being blown out is distracting. Link to comment

DavidRabinowitz 8 Posted February 11, 2008 Joseph's right, the light and visual elements are reminescent of Hopper...nice light and color...regards....David Link to comment
mg 0 Posted February 13, 2008 A little note to Joseph Popper, who wrote: "I'm not sure you can oversturate a surreal image". I'd say: yes, you can. Firstly, the technical answer: you have a tool called "gamut warning" in Photoshop, which highlights in grey the areas that are not printable with appropriate color accuracy. I haven't checked this picture under the gamut warning, but I bet the bottom half of the red area would not be printable as you see it here. Which means that what we are looking at is no longer a photo per se, but rather an "internet-only-photo". Secondly, what's called a surreal - or surrealistic ? - image ? The only surreal thing I see here is the color. Besides that, I see a very real staircase. So, if what gives some sort "surreal" feel to an image is to push the saturation cursor to the right, calling it surreal to justify the color choice is not a valid option, since the color is precisely the only thing that allows to qualify the image as "surreal". A rhetorical "vicious circle"...:-) Regards. Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted February 13, 2008 I am gratified by the comments left by all - as well as being involved in the difference of opinion. I agree with ALL that was said; however, I stand by this image because my intent was to make a dull place more interesting by using the fading sunlight. I know I accomplished that. Perfection eludes me, but I'm committed to finding it one day. Link to comment
william_griffin1 0 Posted February 16, 2008 Hi Liz Haven't been on in a while so I am kind of catching up. This is great, love this sun rays on the building , various colors and your framing, all make for a really neat shot. BILL Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted February 16, 2008 A note to Marc G -- No doubt you are technically correct, and I certainly don't challenge either your expertise or talent. But I do think you took my comment just a tad too literally, perhaps because I stated it less precisely than I should have. My point was simply that intentional color distortion, particularly when it's artfully selective, can indeed create a surreal atmosphere. And that, I believe, is what Liz achieved here. doug_gentry 0 Posted February 17, 2008 Liz, this is really nice! I love your composition and the warm afternoon light is a special touch! Great timing! One thought, the hot spot on the column is a bit "hot" but otherwise fine work! Link to comment
korovev 0 Posted February 17, 2008 probably a little bit oversaturated for my taste, but really a nice shot! Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted February 18, 2008 I appreciate your thoughts. I understand about the blown out column. But I can't figure out how to fix it. I have tried various things, but I don't want to compromise the rest of the tones. Please leave me a suggestion if you can help me. Many thanks to all. Link to comment
bartimeus1 0 Posted February 18, 2008 This is oversaturated and at some part, overexposed. So what? If that is the way you want to see and show this one, then it is your own artistic visuality that speaks. Of course we may have different opinions concerning some matters, but that really doesn`t diminish the value of your visual art work! I like this one just as it is. I am more interested into the mind process whether I see this one as "someone will arrive throught he stairs." or some one will leave down the stairs. :-) Which ever way, I like this one. Your northern friend, Alpo P.S. Thank you very much for the E-Mail! The pleasure is all mine! C U! Link to comment

cherlyn 1 Posted February 20, 2008 When I take photos, technical aspects don't really bother me. Its the feel & the visonery beauty that the image produces that matters more to me. I think this image has achieved its purpose of pleasant visual pleasure with its striking colours & lovely light. Link to comment
