This image is so wonderful! I have a very big smile on my face and I can't find the words to tell you how much I love it.

Thanks Shawn, now I'm smiling too. I want to explain this a bit. It's actually a composite image made up of 4 different shots. The original has only 3 chipmunks in it, the one in the can, the other at the bottom and the third coming up the ramp. It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time as you can see from the date of the photograph. So glad you dropped by, made my day!

Brilliant!! I'm even more impressed to learn that it's a composite! When I first saw it all I could imagine was all the little forest chipmunks screaming to each other: "FIESTA!!" and then hundreds of them came running toward the seeds. Really - great work!

Shawn, thanks once again! Appreciate the thumbs up.

Lou Ann, impressed ya, eh! You can be sure that once the seeds are out "everybody" knows about it in no time at all. We buy sunflower seeds by the 50 pound bag. It's worth every ounce because of all the entertainment we get out of it.

Hi Richard! Our crew of chipmunks is so friendly and especially hungry and so they aren't afraid of us much. That particular summer they were feeding right out of our hands.

... and they climb up on our balcony all summer long to feed just like this. As you say, out of the hands. But my favorite thing is how they don't eat, they just stuff their cheeks, which expand like little bellows, fill up, and then take it back to their home. You can sort of see it in the guy in the center of the can.

Alec, yes, you are so right it's wonderful living close to nature. I love it!

Jim, always a pleasure!

Regina, one of them we named Shortail for obvious reasons, then we renamed it Mrs Shortail, for ovious reasons :-)

Dennis, yes they are hoarders and they can return all day long to the stash of seeds if we let them. They are relentless.

Cynthia, glad you like my chippies too. They are certainly enough to go around!

How adorable they are and lucky to have such an abundant of sunflower seeds. Looks like the little guy in the center of the seeds rules!

Yes they are lucky and so are we to be able to enjoy them. You know the only reason they are so close together is for the seeds otherwise they would battle. The survival of the fittest, strongest and fastest is the rule in their world. I've included the original photo with 3 chipmunks in it. Right after I took it there was an almighty scurry, a blur of chippies and seeds everywhere! :-) Thanks for looking and commenting.

Kim, brilliant! It made me smile. I tryed to photograph them while in the USA with not great results, it is very well composed and processed! A composite? congratulations!

A.K. Thank you for your insightful thought. I love nature as I'm sure you do and most of us photo enthusiasts do and I am lucky enough to be able to spent some quality time at "the cottage".

Pnina, I can see you smiling! So glad you mentioned the processing as I kept this intentionally light because of the subjects. Next time you come to America you need some seeds and nuts in your pocket. You will then see how easy it is to get these little fellows interested. Big smile back!

That's great, documenting a pleasant experience, a virtual digital timelapse. I like the one that has gone for the gusto and is right in the middle. He has quiet a load in his cheeks as well. That chipmunk should have plenty to eat when the days are cold. ~Sky

Well done composite, Kim - you can't even tell, which is the sign of a good job! Makes for an even more fun shot than the original and quite believable.
