Digging back through some old photos, this one was taken in November of 2006. I was wandering around downtown at sunrise, trying to take a whole variety of shots. I was wandering up Pennsylvania Ave., which always affords me my favorite views of the U.S. Capitol building.

So that I can avoid being accused of critiquing my own images, I'll stop there. :-) What are your thoughts?

You got a good one here! Beautiful sunrise, and well portrayed in the vertical format. There's another comp. in here too; crop the bottom up to just below the steps; leave some of the green and red lights (they're kinda cool). Gets rid of all of the cars. Nice work! Cheers! Chris

Thanks, guys! Chris - I try to keep all of my shots cropped at 4x6. I know that you can crop any which way you want ... but I try to remind myself that 4x6 is probably the most common print size ... so I try to stick with that. I cropped a bit off of the left and the bottom from the original. This is what I thought I needed to keep horizontally ... thus I'm sort of stuck with the stuff at the bottom......

You know you can have square format printed? I have a couple of online print services that I use to make my enlargements, etc. I have, in the past, thrown some odd stuff at 'em; and they've cranked 'em out. I agree though; if it ain't square, keep it a standard size/ratio. Everything I do now is standard format and ratios, or square. My point with the suggested crop, was to look at how much you could 'quiet' the scene. Cheers! Chris

I could certainly play around with crops on this ... and I took several shots at this same time/location, so I probably have more options for cropping here as well.... I think I'll play with it. :-)
