Drive-by shooting: Slow shutter, moving vehicle. Thanks for all

comments and suggestions, they are alway appreciated.

Nice work. Like the effect, makes perfect sense and moves gracefully yet distinctively. Colors blend together nicely and the lightness in tone of the trees gives them great life and prominence.

If someone said I could have one of Gordon's prints, but only one, I'd have a hell of a time choosing, they just keep getting better! Wonderful motion and symmetry and color and graceful form and graphic interest and fantasy and abstract detail and....well you get my drift....I really like it.

Gordon ... this drive-by might be your best yet. I think this would look very nice as a large print hanging on my living room wall. The merging colors of the foliage are beautiful and, for me, the roadside, rails, and trees (birch?) anchor the image. You definitely have this technique down to an art.

Have fun in Honduras. The first order of business would be to thaw completely before snorkeling.

It is getting better and better, I like the semi circled direction, the parallel road and rail the " windy" feeling of the whole.

I love the colors and softness of this. I am always amazed of what you can achieve with a camera. I would definitelly hang this in my house, as a painting :)))

How wonderfully this has turned out. As Fred said, the tree trunks take on a life of their own. Those lovely pastel colors are perfect. This is one of your very best IMHO. I must ask, how much of this is processing and how much simple motion blur?

You got those colours painted for the sensor so well that it cant be done any better. I can only guess which kind of technique (movement) you used on this one but i guess it is again something really unique. What is that brighter area in the upper right corner? Really remarkable drive-by again.

Best rgs Tero

Amazing work Gordon, it has a very unique softness to it that really appeals the eye, reminds me of some color pencil sketches I've seen, only this is better. Congratulations!

Well it seems this one is attracting more positive attension than my drive-by shots usually do. I thank you all for sharing your thoughts and offering such generous encouragement. I am often mystified by the variety of responses my work garners. Posting images at PN is an education of its own.

To answer the questions posed thus far:

Mark;

Yes those are paper birch trees, as you know I've been stalking them with my camera quite a bit. When I get to Honduras, I will try to get thoroughly thawed before proceeding. Perhaps some tequila would help with that :)

David;

As a rule, I avoid any substantial manipulation of my drive-by shots. The challenge for me in doing these, is mastering the in-camera effects. The technique and the results are not as random as they may at first appear. For this shot there was a slight crop as well as straightening, some levels and a curves adjustment, a tiny bit of vignetting, a slight burn in the bottom right corner and then resize, sharpen and post.

Tero;

I think you are referring to the area behind the track in that upper corner. The general lightness is because of a clearing in the trees and those grey streaks are dead branches.

Dude, Bra, you're getting good at this! Kidding aside, this is outstanding! This must be the tracks of the Polar Express. The blending of the colors are beautiful and the angles of the lines move perfectly with the direction of the track giving the impression that it certainly goes on and on with speed.

I tried to rate it appropriately but the highest was only a 7.

This was shot last May but it would be a polar express today. The parallel lines of the tracks as well as the road and the sense of linear motion is what makes this one for me, so I think we're seeing the same thing here.

Gordon - Great capture on a drive by! Awesome color scheme. I bet this shot would look great printed on a type of fine art paper. Congrats- John

There is only 90 000 entries in my dictionary, thus about impossible to put in words the impact of this master piece and it's qualities on me. I bow deep.

EDIT: just can't give the well deserved 7/7 quite yet...

You definitely own this technique, and this one is a particularly excellent example. Looks somewhat like a colored pencil drawing, and the composition, colors and movement are wonderful! Regards, David

John;

These do tend to come out quite impressionistic or at least I do my utmost to steer them in that direction.

Markku;

Glad this one moves you. I think it is terrific that you and I both work with motion, we both admire each others work and our images are so completely different from each other. That why I am always amazed by what you are up to now and I learn from studying your photos.

David;

I love your comment. As you know,I have never treated what I do as proprietary and have answered dozen of questions about what I am doing with these shots. I have seen a good number of people trying experiments along the same lines. A large number of these have been quite interesting but somehow they always come out looking very different to the style I seem to be developing. Just another one of life's interesting mysteries :)

Gordon, yet another wonderful image in this series of photos. Beautiful colors and composition.

For what it is worth, I think anyone who has a moment should look through other photographs from this wonderful series. Dan
