fmcm38 0 Posted January 26, 2008 I think this is a wonderful photo - the forms, the light, the focus - everything is right! Link to comment
antoniobassiphotography 0 Posted January 26, 2008 It is great what you achieved here. With a subject like this it is very difficult to get the light properly distributed and the shapes so properly disposed the way you did. Just curious: is that awesome DOF coming only from your lens or there is more to it? Give us some feedback! Great job and see you soon, Antonio Link to comment
pduffy1 1 Posted January 27, 2008 Dan Lovely expression and concept. The play of color, light and line is exquisite. Link to comment
danbliss 0 Posted January 27, 2008 Thank you everyone for your kind words. Antonio, because you were interested, here is a description of what I did. I shot using an 85mm lens with a short extension tube at f/2.8 to get the depth of field that I liked. Actually, I shot a whole range of f-stops, and this was my favorite. I used a tripod so that I could get the point of focus just right. The room was dimly lit (I focused with the lights on) with diffuse light coming in from another room from the left. I shined a flashlight through a plastic cutting board to get a bit of the light from the lower right. Thank you again. Dan Link to comment
beaz 0 Posted January 28, 2008 Very warm and inviting. I like the choice of DOF and unusual composition. Link to comment
eugenio_pastor_benjumeda 0 Posted January 28, 2008 Very, very original Dan. I notice that the depth of field of your Canon 85mm f/1.2 L II is nearly 0. Regards from Eugenio. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted January 30, 2008 I love your handling of light in this image. In combination with the narrow depth of field you have created a world of softness and warmth as if from a dream. The shapes and the colour scheme give this a tinge of eroticism. Link to comment
danbliss 0 Posted January 31, 2008 Eugenio and Gordon, thank you for your kind comments. Eugenio, amusingly, I this shot was at f/2.8. I took some at 1.2, but I thought the depth of field was too narrow. Gordon, I was aware of the at some level of the sensual undertones of the image, and I suppose I was trying to bring that out. It is kind of funny, because it is just some fruit on a board. In any case, thank you very much for your comment. Dan Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted January 31, 2008 Hi, Dan. Interesting shot from you...not one I was expecting. I like that you are trying something different and that you, too, play with various settings until you find just what you're looking for...you've done especially well with this one. I love the lighting, it's a beautiful warm glow and as mentioned by many the DOF is just right. The only thing to pick on would be the choice of a heavy black border, but that's just being picky :) Congrats on another great image. Leslie Link to comment
danbliss 0 Posted January 31, 2008 Thank you Leslie for your kind words. The choice of the border is due to my old film days. It reminds me of my old 6x7 velvia slide film. I miss looking at those glowing colors on the light box. I guess the allusion doesn't work for everyone. In any case, thank you very much for your comments. Dan Link to comment
