aepelbacher 0 Posted January 22, 2008 I loved the late afternoon lighting on the left of this scene, but I couldn't find a way that I liked to compose it without getting the dark shadows on the mountains to the right. Is it bothersome? By the way - I didn't really mean to upload two "moon" shots in a row. It just sorta happened..... :-) Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated! Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted January 22, 2008 Lou Ann... Fabulous shot. The shadows don't bother me, they're natural and are reflected in all the other smaller dark shadows throughout the image. The moon does almost get lost with all the other elements and the overall grandeur. Great sky, excellent depth... wish I were there! Mike Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted January 23, 2008 This is pre-raw isn't it? I think had you shot this in Canon raw; you'd have been able to tinker something up and pull some detail from the shadowed section on the right. You're right though; some terrific light in this. Beautiful rich colors and long shadows. Well done, Lou Ann! Regarding a "New Photos" section in my port. No worries! When I post new stuff I will do that and lead off the portfolio with it. What you are seeing now are redos; and stuff that I'd posted earlier on, and then 'whacked' and have gone back and revisited (e.g., the building B&Ws, etc.). I am in the process of going through each and every image in my port. and making a determination on whether it stays or goes. If it stays, it is reworked, and image-sized for web viewing. Finally, regarding 'critique;' I just plain don't do it. Ratings are meaningless; actually, less than meaningless. I totally believe in leaving quality comments, suggestions, and critiques on photographs that I like, or that I believe have real possibility, or that have really interesting technical or conceptual characteristics. I hope that all of you reciprocate on my photos that you find of interest. Sorry 'bout the length of this response. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Thanks, Chris - you can always feel free to comment in as lengthy a manner as you like. :-) Howdy, Michael!! You should make a point to go to RMNP - you would LOVE the landscape photo possibilities! Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Because the beautiful light and two grand trees are the subject of this image I think you could do a successful, almost square, crop and eliminate the dark mountain to the right, you'd still have the nice sky and one snowcapped distant mountain. I like that you're still posting Colorado pics, I still think you're a Western gal at heart. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Oh, I won't ever write off the west. But I think that it has to be an escape. I can be refreshed by Western scenes ... but my pace is that of the East. (I think....) A square crop is a great idea ... in fact, it might even save the moon in the sky, too! :-) Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Susan is on the right track; I thought about the square crop too; just don't nip any of the branches on the left-most ponderosa pine. You didn't take anything with those rocks right up, close and personal, did you? You know how I love rocks...LOL! Cheers! Chris Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted January 23, 2008 Hi Lou Ann, The L side with the two trees is very nice, with the sky and brown/red soil. the R side is a bit too dark. I join Susan's offer to crop it and make is a real square, it will keep all the nice details of the L one. I like the feeling as if the trees are touching the blue sky... Link to comment
alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted January 23, 2008 Ditto to all the praise and square suggestions above. Beautiful, crisp, colorful photo with some really unique elements. After viewing your fabulous Western shots, I'm working on Western vacation plans for the summer. Thanks for the inspiration! Cheers ~ Link to comment
