someoneelse 1 Posted January 21, 2008 I remember this one, I once did steel this idea from you, when I was still living in Portugal, now I am back in rainy, grey Holland for some years now, and have a little agave on my little balcony, who knows, perhaps it will flower one day, ;D kind regards Els Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted January 22, 2008 It didn't take a photo like this to remind me of your greatness. I have a belief that a great photographer is full of fresh ideas waiting for the opportunity to be seen by the photographer -- at least a certain percentage of great photographers -- those with great vision. Some great photographers -- Karsh of Ottawa, for instance, have a single vision, and get fixated on that and develop it into a signature style and that style is theirs for a lifetime and that's OK too. But the strenth of your 'style' is that you are continually recognizing things around you, trying them out and 'seeing' them in different ways, such as in ths photo. And I am far overdue in placing you on my 'interesting person' list - which has been mostly dormant for about three years, but is getting revived, so I can watch your work more frequently. Very nice work; (not just this but all your work (and thanks for the calendar two or so years ago, it was much appreciated -- it also showed your professionalism.) John (Crosley) Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted January 23, 2008 John, the last time that I was honoured to receive one of your commentaries, you made mention of my best photographic effort. Again, in this particular folder of close up shots, the image above would rank very highly on my list of personal favourites.I found this whilst on a leisurely walk and was lucky to encounter a clear blue sky at the same time. This image was originally posted in my PN portfolio during 2004. At that time, I fairly quickly provided a second image to indicate how I found this dead Agave Americana bloom (thanks go to Walter Hinterberger for providing the correct name of this plant).I may do the same again this time around, but decided that, for the moment, I should leave it up to people's imagination as to how I obtained this shot.A polarizing filter was used to get the deep blue backdrop, but no additional actions were taken in Photoshop to improve the composition. This is exactly how I recorded it with my cameraBirte, Yann, Michael and Stefan, thank you very much for viewing and commenting on this one!It was really great to find your comment, Els!As indicated above, I did indeed have this one in my portfolio, before I took a break from photo.net.It is nice to read that you actually remembered it. Nothing wrong with using the idea. I regard that as a compliment, actually... Link to comment
lucyhollis 2 Posted June 24, 2008 Very interesting photo! Having four 'trees' rather than an even number helps give it a not quite restful composition I think, which is good for this theme of aliens. What works so well for this photo too is how the light direction is perfect for making these look like real trees, it doesn't feel like a stem turned on its side, even if it is, it just feels real! nickjeftic 0 Posted February 22, 2009 Finding solutions like these is what separates the "men" form the "boys". Wonderfuly seen and impecably executed! My greatest compliments... Link to comment
