animalexplorer 0 Posted January 21, 2008 Hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin) This is a very strange bird, it almost looks like it's from the prehistoric era and has a similiar appearance to archeopterix a bird that lived millions of years ago. These birds roost over the waters edge. If the juvenile birds are ever threatened by a potential predator they dive into the water to escape, they have a special adaptation that they have developed through evolution, it is a claw at the tip of their wings which enables them to grip the tree as they climb back up to perch. In time they loose the ability to use this adaptation. -Paul Link to comment
