marcadamus 1 Posted January 17, 2008 This image from Oregon's rugged coast the other night amidst a vibrant sunset. I hadn't shot the coast in about six months and very nearly forgot what I'd been missing! Thanks for comments. Your opinions are important to me. 1Ds Mark III, 16-35 f/2.8 II at 16mm, 3-stop GND, Polarizer,1/4 second at f16, single file RAW blend for sun/cliffs areas. Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Looks like we were missing something as well. This is great. Fabulous light and composition, perfect timing for the capture, just a magnificent image. Link to comment
janc 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Hi Marc! I almost can hear that song :-) Wonderful shot, very well performed. Congrats. Best regards. Link to comment

paolo de faveri 1 Posted January 17, 2008 Well Marc, it doesn't look like you forgot how to shoot the coast...That's an amazing scene, and I like everything about it. You're right, that tide is singing, I can hear it! I never get tired looking at your pictures, Marc, the only boring thing is that I always find myself using the same old adjectives, such as amazing, astonishing, fantastic, stunning... Please do us a favor, and post a hugly one sometime... :-) Cheers man,Paolo Link to comment
lalit 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Aha.... this is the one. Again ..no comparison, but this horizontal composition just amazingly beautiful. The ruggedness and the churning of the ocean waves, is the perfect match and no critique about the light you have captured. I went to cape perpetua few months ago and I was totally intimidated by the sound of the waves..let alone taking a picture of it :-) Another original shot. Regards +Lalit Link to comment
younes 0 Posted January 17, 2008 I too much prefer the horizontal format! The light is simply outstanding, and few master it like you do! I must say that I do prefer the wave action in the shot you posted over at PNWNP. Link to comment
sapsey 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Hi Marc I was convinced that you would not ask for a critique rating anymore so I was quite surprised to see this requesting a critique. As always a bold, dynamic and spectacular landscape. I know how you carry on with the legacy of Galen Rowell and his work timeless but somewhat still believe that you are adding on the next step and doing work probably no one on this planet can follow. marcadamus 1 Posted January 17, 2008 Stuart, I simply forgot to check that 'critique only' box. Oh well. I'll sit back and wait for that 4/4 guy to come along now ;-) Hey, I appreciate all the comments and opinions though. Thanks. Link to comment
bentoller 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Here i am the 4/4. no i am just joking ;-). What an amazing shot, Marc. I fly over to Oregon twice a year for a sales meeting (joy!) and i would love to have some time to see that part of the countrysite. Walk around, enjoy the beauty and try and take the photographs that i love...these amazing landscap shots. Link to comment
jake_mcguire 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Marc, This is a spectacular shot!!! I think this is the same location as the other one you've recently posted, right? I absolutely LOVE the detail in the rocks. I also enjoy your choice of shutter speed for this one. I usually like the complete *mist* look caused by the long shutter speeds. But, for this one, I really enjoy the sense of motion we all get from the water. Compositionally I think, as usual, it is superb. You are most definately carving way along a path which I don't think many will ever be able to follow. I certainly strive to every time I'm behind the camera! Thanks Marc. Jake Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted January 17, 2008 This is far better for me, Marc. I am not a big fan of the long exposures that render the water as a foggy mist. Looks too surreal. The slight blur here retains the detail in the frothy water, but still conveys motion. As well, the prior version either seems blown out in the sky or blurred by the long exposure. This post provides detail across the sky and looks more realistic. The placement of the horizon works well, and the light coming off the rocks on the right is magical. I can only imagine this blown up to 30X45 or whatever full frame works out to be at that monster size. I bet this could work well on canvas because of the painterly effect of the water. It figures that the single anonymous rater gave you a 6/6. This is a Devine Image without flaw!! Link to comment
huhu-lin 0 Posted January 18, 2008 The first rate I give to Marc's pics.Don't worry about those terrible low 3/3 or 4/4 attacks..your pieces could definitely escape one of those,Marc ^^ Link to comment
rarindra 0 Posted January 18, 2008 glad to see your beautiful work again here :) and surprised that you have same anxiety 3/3 monster. Link to comment
cmouli 0 Posted January 18, 2008 Simply wonderful! Its been a while since I went to Oregon coast - and this photo most certainly is an invitation to visit soon! thanks for sharing! Link to comment
michael anderson 0 Posted January 18, 2008 Awesome image Marc! Fantastic wave motion and sunset light. I'm glad to have an opportunity to give you a 7/7 rating! Link to comment
kenesmith1 0 Posted January 18, 2008 The right side of the frothy ocean ...with the ligtly blue-white colors totally anchor the surrounding golds, browns and darker hues. Great job balancing light...and blend of colors. Link to comment
sapsey 0 Posted January 18, 2008 I have noticed low scores before on some of your photos and firmly believe the member who rated it is riddled with jealousy. So by rating someone who is renowned or just does amazing work, lower than him/herself, hangs onto a glimmer of hope in their mind that they actually might be better. I can see why you are not concerned with ratings. Your mark has been made. "No pun intended" Link to comment
eldar 0 Posted January 18, 2008 I too prefer the horizontal version of this one. The water is truly magical in this shot. I can't think of anything this shot might be missing - simply perfect! Link to comment
c brake 0 Posted January 18, 2008 Absolutely stunning image, Marc! You have a great talent and I'm glad you share it with the rest of us who aspire to create images equal to yours and probably never will. This image reminds me of what I imagine the earth may have looked like millenia ago as it was being carved out by the waters. I make it out to Oregon at least once a year nowadays to visit my daughter, but it's always overcast. You keep amazing me with the light you find! Link to comment
