My first post with the new 1Ds III. Thanks for your comments. Feel

Fabulous spotty patterns, I suspect the ice fringeing would look absolutely amazing in the print size with all those juicy pixels doing their stuff!

Hey Mark, my first impression was "wow another amazing shot" but after viewing it for a little while, there's one minor thing thats bugging me. I'm not sure if I like the vignetting in the bottom corners for this, its fine for the sky but I'm afraid you lose some of the detail at the bottom. Its probably only affecting the low res version but it is something that caught my eye. I think one of the most magical parts of this is the sky reflecting in the ice and you its lost on the closest part of the frame. Perhaps it wasn't there in the first place because of the angle. Bear in mind that this is coming from a fairly amateur shooter.

Congrats on your new workhorse. They say its not the equipment, and with an eye like yours it probably isn't, but I am sure with the new outfit, your creativity is getting a boost. Oregon sure has it all. Now for my nits! I am guessing the vignette is either intentional or was unavoidable. I can see this image possibly benefiting from a slight crop across the top, just below the cloud top on the left. Truly minor. I can't help but feel, though, that we are leaning to the left. It may be a false horizon playing with my eyes. This looks like an amazing place and your timing, as usual, is perfect. Really beautiful.

It's a beautiful photograph with the usual dramatic conditions, glorious sky-colour and reflection, but I can't put my finger on it, it doesn't leap out at me the way many of your photos do. Perhaps its the relative simplicity of the elements - foreground being flat and therefore a slightly less fine-tuned arrangement to worry about (that's not a critique, more an observation on the nature of the landscape around you!) It's a gorgeous presentation of what is there however, so congratulations! Quick question, you used to praise the 5D because of its combination of lightweightedness and image quality - how does this camera fare on that ratio? Obviously the MP amount has come up, but how much better is image quality in a full-size file and how much more weight is it packing in its bulk?

Cheers,

James
