davidclapp 0 Posted January 10, 2008 Crys of "NO F*8KInG Way!!!!" and the like where eminating from my mouth a few weeks ago, far more frequently than the healthy amount of swearing that I normally do. We had 45foot waves and 80mph NW gusts on the Cornish cliffs as a very large and ugly weather system lost its rag out in the Atlantic. It just simply blew me off my feet literally, as twice I found myself thrown to the ground, even with 13kg on my back. The explosions were over 100feet+. Batches of freak waves would roll in every five minutes and destroy everything, it was so utterly incredible to witness. Just look at those nutters on the clifftop. This was shot with a 70-200 f4L +1.4xII ISO 400 at f8 for 1/125 Link to comment
davidclapp 0 Posted January 10, 2008 Cheers for looking. Massive 45foot wave hitting the cliffs as a large weather system heads north throught the Atlantic. Link to comment
davidclapp 0 Posted January 10, 2008 Shay, the cliffs are over 100ft high, the explosion has to 130ft+, at 1/125th or 1/1250th it would make no difference at all, but I see what you are trying to say. You are looking at wind blown waves (it was gusting over 80mph) headed from the left to the right of the picture. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 10, 2008 Exceptional powerful shot! These crazy dudes make a perfect scale. Have they been hit by that wave? Link to comment
younes 0 Posted January 10, 2008 I eat these waves for breakfast! Come on 125ft waves...nothing there! Seriously, holy CRAP!!!! Fantastic catch, though I would have stayed in my car personally :-D. Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted January 11, 2008 Great shot. You have captured the awesome power in that wave and the two nuts standing up there. Well done. Link to comment

cbabbitt 0 Posted January 11, 2008 David, Spectacular shot! I am a sucker for the power of the ocean. The giant surf in Ireland this winter made big news in the surfing world. A group of Yanks were doing tow-in surfing on some monster 20 meter plus waves. Link to comment
mbpixel 0 Posted January 11, 2008 Excellent shot David Those two loons on the cliff really give the shot a true sense of scale!! Link to comment
dacamera 0 Posted January 13, 2008 A superb image which makes you feel even smaller in the face of the power of nature when you notice the two tiny figures on the cliff top! Simon Link to comment
terrygilroy 0 Posted January 13, 2008 Superb image, great lighting and sharp considering the struggle that you had with the wind, the noise must have been terrific, glad you survived Link to comment
cynthia_farr_weinfeld1 0 Posted January 25, 2008 I think you nailed it and I agree with you in your response to a critique of needing a faster shutter speed--this shot is amazing and made even moreso by the "nutters" about to get washed away! I especially like your title! It really made me laugh! Nice work, Cindy Link to comment
bretsch 0 Posted January 31, 2008 Most impressive, the sight is breathtaking, especially with the scale referring provided by the two ?locos? on top of the cliff, no to mention your daring moves to capture such a terrific image. You have my most sincere admiration, for a tremendous piece of work. Link to comment
