Quoth the raven (okay, vulture). Ominous. This time of year you'd expect a reindeer or two, but hey, a vulture's also a nice surprise. I love how you've handled the russets and greens of the house. Nicely done.

Thanks for looking and commenting! I've seen a lot of vultures in my day but never in this anhinga-like, "soaking up some sun" posture. Dumb luck that I had the camera with me to catch this commentary on the state of the US housing market. Your Poe quote is great, Jeff--especially since he hailed from these parts.

I only wish I could get more detail out of the bird itself so I didn't have to id it in the title. I added contrast and darkened for the sake of drama, of course, but only after seeing that, as shot, the bird is too much silhouetted to be obviously a vulture.

I think I'll use this as a pp learning project as I start to work with layers: hopefully the image will have lost its currency by the time I solve that puzzle.

Geez, Dave, one of those things flew into my yard the other day, and I swear, I thought he was after one of the dogs. Nice house by the way. They are not discriminating, you know. Beware! Regards, liz

Pierre: This is one of those cardboard houses they're building in the middle of nowhere so people can commute to the city in their SUV's and return to their Disney World at night.

Liz: For some reason, vultures seem to be doing very well these days. I used to think of them as rural birds but I see them in the city a lot these days--ominous sign of the times?
