Abandoned Building on Ellicott Island, Tonawanda, NY

I wandered this little island on the Erie Canal ... thought that this building was fascinating. I'll have to go back eventually because there was some ice (you can see a bit of it on the sidewalk in the foreground) that was on a slant toward the Canal shore and it was rather hazardous to walk around.

 

What are your thoughts? Does the crop work? Does B&W work well here? Anything else?

And well captured and presented.

 

I might experiment with the inside wall's graffiti and try lightening only that area to make it stand out.

 

The way you have it is just outstanding. Textures, POV, focus, B&W conversion like high def.

B&W is perfect for this photo. I agree with Alberta that it would be nice to see the inside graffiti a little better, but it certainly doesn't take anything away from the image. If I remember correctly (we already know how good my memory is) there used to be a boathouse that looked something like this on the island. Is this it? I remember going there with my parents as a young boy and renting a boat.

Mark, that's probably the one. The structure in the immediate right is more of a rounded turret ... the arches lead into what would have been a large room. I can imagine it being a boat house ... it's rather close to the water.

wonderful. this reminds me of a medeival castle. the graffiti brings it into the now. the snow a blanket that covers both times.
