An interesting foto. I like the approach. The only minor nit is socket with the cords plugged in. You might think about using photoshop to get rid it.

Thank you Jim and Kenny for leaving comments.

Actually, i get philosophical when taking and viewing this image. I often wonder what One sees oneself through the reflection of one's image in the mirror, or when One reflects upon oneself. I use this image as a metaphor of a human's complexity, and it's up to the viewer to decide the meaning of it.

Jim, thanks for your input, but i intentionally kept the plug there. Have you seen the movie "Matrix 1"?. It's one of the most intelligent movie i've ever seen. Hehe! I might disappear completely if you ...unplug me :o).

Kenny, i am glad this photo is of an interest to you. I love this photo because it's a reflection of a year past and anticipation for a year to come.

Happy New Year 2008 filled with creativity and good health to both of you. Warmly, Tanya.

Tanya, this is a very interesting way of presenting a self portrait, in an everyday surrounding( and therefor I like it as is)... It attracts the eye and is thought provoking. The blurred figure evoks the question how we perceive ourself , the mirror is a good metaphor as you have stated.it reflects our form, but not our psyche, our thoughts our mental being, so the blur is appropriate. very good image, well lighted and composed.

My best wishes Tanya my dear, for 2008., to you and yours.

What a creative philosophical approach of taking a picture of oneself !. I like the concept and the originality of the idea. Better than the classical mirrored image trying to ask : "mirror mirror on the wall, am I the prettiest of all ?".

Pnina, you understand me well. Your friendship adds warmth to my heart through the years. Thanks.

Beng, i like how you put it. It's not about "mirror, mirror on the wall. Am i the prettiest of all?" Well! I don't normally ask the mirror that question because i've already known the answer ;o). If i had asked that question, i think the mirror would say: "Well! my darling, you are...not the prettiest, but you are the loviest in your beholder's eye." Hehe! Hope your eyes behold me very long, Beng :o).

Pierre! Thank you for your input. Haha! I think i have to take the photoshop lessons from a master like you to fix it. Nevertheless, for this photo, I would have tried to fix the mirror and unplug the cord if i wanted my surrounding to look perfect and orderly; however, this is a spontaneous shot and i wanted to keep the reality as it is. I will definitely seek your advice when i want to play with photoshop to make the picture looks perfect next time.

Marc and John, thanks for stopping by. I am glad a lot of you like this image. Now, i feel so connected with many :o).

tanya, this is a charming shot. the slanted mirror in the foreground which contours your body is meant to be a doorway to another plane, where the figure is blurred and uncertain in striking contrast to the earthly, old-timey wooden chest. it seeems you place yourself on the other side. the plugs are ok,I guess they are a reminiscence of modernity, and do fit well in the image (although I have not seeen Matrix). The only minor defect I see is the intruding shadow from the half-cut red object (a lamp?) on the left. But I guess to include the lamp you would have cut out the plug, so it's a choice. Great lighting, as in many of your pictures, it reminds me of an Italian photographer called Luigi Ghirri, not so well-known, who should be considered IMHO a master. check out the www for his pictures. I also liked your other self-portraits, I'll leave a comment about it in your portfolio.

cheers marco

for such detailed analogy to this photo. Ya! This photo is one of my most favorite self-portraits ever, and of course, because it has to do lot with whatever the interpretation that could be :o). Marco, i will definitely look up Luigi Ghirri. Thanks for sharing your thought and info. I will take time to look through yours as well. Warmly, Tanya.
