I don't know Doll, but I hope that she has a lovely boat. :-)

I've been going through my Erie Canal shots again. Taken 12/26/07. How about this one? Good for B&W? Is the top crop okay, or should I have cropped down to the snow? Is it well composed? Do the reflections provide a good background? Any other thoughts?

Ann, such an original point of view, I had to do a double take so my mind could process what I was seeing. Really nice photo! Perfect in Black and white! Regards, Doug

Lou Ann, all 3 of them are well done, but this one is my favorite, because reality and reflected reality are having a mysterious linkage. I like the composition with the snow on the upper and lower part, like a frame, and the upside down reflections seen as "part" of the bridge....

the refelctions on this one are really exciting! the crop at top troubles me a little. I can't decide if i want to see a little more of the top, or if i would like it better cropped at the snow. really fine image Lou Ann

Lou Ann, the framing you choose works out real well... very interesting and creative! :)

I also think it works very well as a b&w! :)

Lou Ann,

I drive right past lock 7 on my way to work everyday. Locks 2-6 are in Waterford, about 10-12 miles away or so. I have a good friend from Little Falls, where the canal is a bigger part of their small town, and he always seems to enjoy the annual Canal Fest.

Your photo here is real nice. At first glance it looks like the dock is heading into the sky :)

I really like this composition, but it makes me feel a little disoriented. It's almost like I could walk to the end of the dock and into a parallel world that's upside down compared to ours. Or .... maybe ours is upside down compared to theirs.
