No wonder this was called 'The Great Comet of 2007'~ Fantastic!

Truly wonderful image, unfortunately i missed this comet as it was very close to the horizon from my location at dusk, and i was also working so could not get outside until just after it had set :(

 

You have captured excellent detail on the curving ion tail, and the image is also very sharp. This is a 7/7 for me, no question.

I agree with Alex. That is some trail! I can't say I ever seen one quite so flared before. How often does it pass by?

The details that I should have provided, are as follows:

Captured on Monday 22 January 2007, with a Canon 5D and 50mm lens at f1.8 mounted on a tripod. Exposure was 10 seconds, at an ISO of 800.

Photographed at 10:27pm with no Moon above horizon and well outside city limits!This was definitely the best night for observing this great comet of 2007, from my location.

This is an amazing photo. I cannot think of a better comet picture. Thank you for sharing, and Happy New Year.

Incredible shot. I was lucky enough to get a glimpse of Mr. McNaught here on Maui but it would only appear at dusk on the horizon. On one of the days you could see it during the day. I tried to get a shot but it looked like a wisp of a cloud. This is one of the best comet photos I have seen in years. Thank you for sharing this with us. What a treat.
