A very powerful image. I love the film grain and the slightly murky overall greyness of the shot. It seems so appropriate for a train yard. The stoic yet dreamy expression is terrific and really makes this one. My only little nit would be that you have a few flecks of dust on your neg showing up on the side of the boxcar above your fathers left arm. The perspective has a tendency to make it appear that your father is pullover the train over on its side, I'm not certain if this is intentional or not. A great shot and taking a quick first look at your portfolio makes it obvious this is only one of many strong B&W images.

I just came across this picture through a posting you made about shooting in London. I really like it. It does have a dated feel about it and originally, I thought it might have been from the early part of the 19th century although perhaps it is from a little later. Photography is all about capturing the moment but when that moment signified movement, the result is a more pleasing and meaningful exposure. Thanks for sharing this picture.

I like the "seriousness" in his expression, . . . and the concentration on the "task at hand." Rail Yards can be a dangerous place.

A treasured photograph certainly!

I love this photo.  I'm also envious, because I wasn't smart enough to photograph my dad at work while he was still alive.  Instead, I have lots of meaningless shots of textures of concrete and such.  Congratulations on knowing what's important to photograph!

Great image from all perspectives.

I like how you let the whites and the blacks take the viewer to the stern face of concentration.

The DoF also works very well.
