Just having a little fun. :-) I'm about 45 minutes drive from Niagara Falls (although I spent more time than that on the bridge waiting to go through customs!) It was a somewhat clear night, but when you have some snow, the Falls are always prettier. This time of year they flood the falls with lights at night ... the colors change every so often. It's nice if you've never seen it. Enjoy!

Oh wow, LouAnn...I had no idea they did that! It's really beautiful! Now, did you get a close-up of my rock? ;-p LOL. I love how you framed this by the way...being a night shot, you lose all of the daytime distractions and any aspect that is less than gorgeous. Now the city beyond glows prettily in the dark and the falls are lit beautifully. Excellent!

Thanks, Leslie - no I didn't get your rock. I didn't even stop on the NY side. That was definitely my mistake. I sat on the bridge for almost an hour waiting in line for customs. Parking in NY would definitely have been the better choice. Oh, well ... I had my iPod with me. :-) Glad you stopped by! Happy New Year!

This is stunningly beautiful, I've never seen Niagara Falls so this is a wonderful surprise, I had no idea they shined lights on it at night. The city scape also adds a nice element to the composition. It was worth your hour wait. Happy New Year, hope you have lots of great adventures in 2008.

Niagara Falls is ALWAYS worth the trouble getting there. But talk to someone (or go with someone) who knows the place before you go there because there are ways NOT to do Niagara Falls. :-) It really is a beautiful and awe-inspiring sight. Happy New Year everyone!

Beautiful...Like the lights in the background as well. Been a long time since I've viewed them at night. Happy New Year, LouAnn...

Niagara Falls under the colored lights is a thing of beauty and you captured it well. This photo reminds me of the time I tried to go over in a barrel. The only problem was that it was 1967 (or '68?), the summer they diverted the water away from the American side to study the rock structure. Needless to say, my barrel went nowhere and I was the laughing stock of WNY. From then on I was known as "Nowhere man". ;-)

You made me laugh right out loud. Now I'm going to make you cry. (Sorry!) It had to have been about 1969 or 1970 ... because I have a photo of my mom holding me (probably about a year or two old) standing on the rocks in the middle of where this photo would have water there. So it couldn't have been 1967 (I wasn't born yet) or 1968 (I was too young then). (Again, sorry!)

It was 1969 according to Wikipedia. I should have kept the barrel ... the date was inscribed on it. The one thing I do remember as if i was yesterday ... the smell! The darned thing smelled absolutely rotten.

The barrel smelled? That is funny! Was it one of those touristy things ... get your photo taken with a barrel on the top of Niagara Falls? Well, driving TO Niagara Falls sometimes smells, too ... with all of those plants along the river. :-) Oh, the memories of Western New York....

I was actually referring to the dried up falls that smelled. It was probably due to the dying algae and moss. It was quite the sight and somewhere, I have a photo or two of it.

Very nice capture of the Falls. Yes, they have LED lights these days and it's brighter and nicer than before. The lights come on EVERY night, rain, snow or shine ;) You should also SEE the Falls with the fireworks!!! Now that's a huuuuuge hecka sight to behold!!! Don't forget your tripod!
