Almost missed this shot as we cut steps in the ice, one minute later

and it had glided silently out of sight. The Europa was built in 1909

(you may have seen it in film "Master and Commander"). In B&W it

could be taken for one the turn of the century explorers.

What a great shot! not just to capture the passing ship but the curious penguins as well! The overall tone feels icy cold and the whole image conveys a great sense of loneliness in this remote spot. Best wishes - Michael

Birte, checked out your amazing gallery, but nothing from Antarctica! - How about posting some of your best shots? Cheers, RickDB

...I bought my first digital SLR for this trip - and I was really amazed with the quality of the pictures. Fortunately I had the good sense to shoot RAW (+ jpeg) and have "developed" this several times as my PS skills have improved. Now I have a framed 13"x19" print of this one on my wall, a great reminder of a trip of a lifetime. Cheers! RickDB
