Thank you all for your comments and sorry to be late with this.

 

I find it's easy to get these little guys to sit still and come really close to them IF it's a warm sunny day (they lounge a lot) and my movements are very slow. I talk to them, too, but have no way to prove that has any effect. What I find most difficult is getting everything in focus with the macro when I'm so close to a very 3D object. So I just shoot a lot, changing my POV and the lighting, and delete, delete, delete.
