This footbridge is partially submerged twice a day. You can see the

line of the river it crosses under the water. The long exposure has

picked up the very last vestiges of warmth from the sun and made the

graffiti on the brickwork look like embroidery!

It certainly is an image to admire, it has wonderful colors, great use of light and quite a surreal feeling to it. Congratulations!

Simon, I'm trying to figure out if this is a "true" image or a blend of multiple. Not that it matters, it is beautiful. I am leaning towards thinking that this is indeed a real bridge found right where it is. It looks like a road or waterway running under it. Is this all ice around it? This is a great shot. The lighting and colors are all very simple and muted and that works well here. The rock also adds an element to it so that it is not all just about the bridge. It looks very cold. Very nice shot. Well done.

Hi Mark, thanks for taking the time to comment.

It is completely unmanipulated, just curves and levels.

The bridge is over a small river which you can see the track of and leads to a very nice beach over on the left hand side. Twice a day the tide covers every thing for an hour or two. I saw this and thought it would make a great long exposure. I wanted a calm sea, a bland sky (to add to the surreal effect) and a high tide at dusk. I had to wait a few months before every thing came together when I was free! The exposure was 3 mins at f8 which has given the water the colour and icy texture. Also, because it was virtually dark (I had to guess the focus) the camera has just picked up the very last vestiges of colour in the sky and on the bridge brickwork. You can just make out the light house on Bass Rock in the far distance with the lights of the Fife coast behind.

Simon,

this is fantastic, what a beautiful photograph! I particularly appreciate the time and planning involved - thanks for adding those details, it certainly paid off!

The colours are stunning too. have you made a print of this? I can imagine it framed nicely up on the wall.

Can I also be cheeky and ask you roughly the location? From what you've written I'm assuming this is near North Berwick or Belhaven?

Many thanks,

Ben

Simon, this is a marvelous image. And to me the story of the image in your head, the months waiting and the time of the shot add so much to the image. Thank you. At first glance I felt like I was seeing some visible portion of a sunken vessel, and I sortof liked my story in my head. Imagination is a wonderful thing and this shot lets the mind run free.

Una toma estupenda... surrealista... el puente semi sumergido parece quemarse con los ultimos rayos de sol... y el agua parece una fina capa de hielo. 7/7
