Matt Laur 2,201 Posted December 8, 2007 This placid fellow was surprisingly content to allow this closeup. It's worth clicking to the larger view. Thanks for looking, and comments always welcome. Link to comment
Wayne Melia 5,998 Posted December 8, 2007 The reflected scene in the eye is a nice touch. Link to comment
Matt Laur 2,201 Posted December 8, 2007 Wayne: Thanks. That was dumb luck, actually. The bird was standing right at the edge of some shadows, and just getting his head out into the light. I was in a bright puddle of full sun, perhaps a meter from him. That scene you're seeing reflected in the eye is the sky over the lake, a bit of beach, and the sillhouette of me crouching down for the shot. Link to comment
Matt Laur 2,201 Posted December 8, 2007 You know, say what you will about the 18-200VR lens being consumerish and touristy (which is exactly how and why I was using it that day), but it's not too shabby when you have some light to work with. The VR really helps in handheld situations like this. Link to comment
