Tripod, National Archives portico, no filters or flash. If you are not in the way of traffic you can use a tripod in places like this, but you need to be very nice to the guards, and respect their job. I can't recall the exposure numbers for this shot, but I think it was 1 second at f16, taken at approx. noon on a sunny day. This image was scanned from a 5x5 print.

This is a better print from a series of images I took at the National

Archives. This is XP2, but I'm currently experimenting at the same

location with Tri-X to look at the differences. Any comments

appreciated.

Hmm ... and I thought that I was the only one running around dc with a camera :).I think that the unbalanced motion of the tourists clashes with the smooth contoured lines of the columns . Maybe the motion blur would work better somewhere in the metro ?

The detail on the column to the left is great, if you could get that detail on the right one it would make a better photo. Also if you could have made the people that almost stood still, stay still or made them move to blur in with the rest it would have been better. Its a nice picture. Clear and crisp whites and blacks.

The exposure is nice and I like the framing. The motion, however, bothers me. It isn't the difference between people, it is the disembodied feet in the center of the frame. I think I would have preferred to see either less blur or more (more would have been better I think).

I like your choice of mat, with the light grey inside and the black outside. It brings out the tonal qualities of the print nicely.
