Excellent composition & reflection, very good control of exposure & light. For Pnina, there is no pause; only fast forward.

I love the three parts of this composition with the main subject in the center "V" layer. The reflection and exposure are superb. Some scenes are common across cultures.

Very clever idea. This works so well as a composition, all of the lines conspire to add strength to the plot, pulling my eye through the strings of the piano towards the player then up to his reflection and back down the lid to the strings again. I would have liked this more if he was playing rather than talking on his cell phone, but you don't always get to make these choices for your subjects :)

I like the candid aspect of this, Pnina. Funny, musicians and cell phones. I played in an orchestra for the past several years. Our conductor had SUCH an issue with cell phones and went on and on about turning cell phones off during rehearsals. Then one day, if I remember correctly, at a critical moment during a dress rehearsal with a guest soloist the conductor's cell phone went off ... one of those things that wasn't funny, but it really was funny. :-)

I like that the cover of the piano has a perfect reflection of his face and posture and expression, but brings in other items in the room, like the back of a chair that we wouldn't see otherwise.

to all of you, for your feedback.

Gord and Lou Ann, your remarks about the cell phones are very right and accurate. In our concerts they say in the begining " Please keep your "pets" closed....;-)) it is a "epidemic"....

I attended a lecture recently and the speaker made a request that everyone turn off their cell phones before he began.... well about ten minutes into the talk his phone started to ring :)

Intereesting discussion about the cell phone. It seems difficult to take a candid or street shot these days without the presence of a cell phone. (For that matter, it's impossible to go to a movie anymore without sitting close to some jerk who has to check his text messages a few times.)

That being said, I like the photo including the cell phone. I think it makes for a good, ironic portrait. You've captured a lot that's genuine about this man in a very honest and straightforward way. I think the cell phone adds to that feeling. Its contrast to the magnificence of the instrument is glaring. Even in your capturing the reflection here, there is nothing pretentious. The sort of cut yet simple feel of the geometry gives this a sharpness and, of course, another dimension with which to view this man.

The image does not scream, "this musician is an artist." It presents a guy who can play music. I hope he, as the subject, is thrilled with it.

Thanks for your ( as always)nice extensive evaluation. It was not a regular recital, it was in a house of a well known musician and composer by the name of Gil Shohat. This one was the second one that played there, and even it was taken quite a long time ago, I remember that he played well. The piano was a great music tool, very beautiful!
