Critiques appreciated.

wow...!! what a model you have.. incredible in all senses.. I like the photo, her pose.. the background (na dfloor) doesnt help.. but I like it a lot. Regards. Ruben

Hi. I'd first like to say that skin tones don't stand out very well on this background. Then I'm not too sure why you chose to have her pose this way. And why this tie ? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the tatoos seem to be the main subject here, right ? Then I'd just ask: do you think they have been treated as a main subject should be ? Or could you have emphasized them more in a completely different way ? Regards.

May be I am wrong or differ from your view, but its not has that much impact which it could have. Apart from Marc, the canvas where she is standing is distracting a bit for its twisted part. The right hand IMO should have been placed a little lower to get the full face. Lastly, (may be for my monitor) it seems to be slightly d-focus to me. Meaning no disrespect . . . just my feelings. Rgds.

I have the greatest respect for the people above. Not only are they superb photographers, but also very good critics, especially Marc that has turned photo critic to a fine art on photo net.

 

I nevertheless respectfully disagree. I think that all of you are focused on the details and are missing the forest by looking at the tree. I find that this image has tremendous panache, one of the recent works of Jim that I enjoy the most. First of all he has a strong complicity thing going with this model, it is evident, and then the pose, the expression, the eye to eye contact and the obvious humour with which this was taken and conceived all unite in my view to captivate the viewer, at least me! I know how well the others mean their comments and how elegantly Jim will take them, but I would just like him to know that opinions differ and I really identify with this photo and I find it superb.

Its a story of that glass which I have seen as half empty. On the other side John consider it as half full. Actually its an arena where you can express your thought instantly about your first reaction. From John's point of view and critique makes me think over it for second time and what I find is "first reaction can't be conclusive." One thing I must confess that I was a bit wrong to critique it. This is not meant to be a pure fine art foto, as many of Marc G.?s fotos are. It is meant to be at least 70% narrative. I feel the tattoos have much too strong a narrative impact to try anything purely fine art.

 

The intended subject of the foto is not the tattoos, it is the woman wearing them (Kerry). She is spontaneous, vibrant, unpredictable, multi-dimensional, and younger than her age. The intent of the foto is to show this.

 

 

One manifestation of her personality is the visual tension in the image. The viewer?s eye jumps from tattoo to tattoo to tie to hat, but always back to the face and eyes.

 

The foto was taken as spontaneously as it appears. When we noticed a pile of neckties and the hat, this pose and others followed very quickly.

 

Yes, there was a problem with the sweep around her feet, but it is fixed.

 

We all see things in different ways, and I like to get other photographer's views on my work.

 

To use a musical analogy, this foto is more like a Rock piece by Jimi Hendrix than a Jazz piece by Miles Davis.

 

Marc, from my perspective, your fotos remind me more of Miles Davis than Jimi Hendrix.

How pleasing to see such frindly and objective criticism on PN. Kaushik, thank you for your additional input. In fact it's wonderful that a single image can provoke such varied reactions. Everyone undoubtedly has some valid points, including Jim whose analysis differs still from our own (and I do agree about the eyes). The only thing that seems cosistent is the charm of the young lady. Congratulations to her also.

The ripples in the sweep have been removed.

 

This is my favorite photo of this model. Nothing interests me more than photos of tattoos! They tell so much of the persons personality. The Hat and the Necktie fit perfectly! I couldn't say too much about this one!!!!! Great!
