Matt Laur 2,201 Posted November 16, 2007 Everything in Venice is stylish, including the ambulance crews. This was a high-speed response to a call just off the Grand Canal just as the sun was going down. I was fortunate to have a good lens mounted, and VR helped with the 1/40th panning shot. Thanks for looking (views much better larger!), and for comments. Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted November 17, 2007 The technical accomplishments --- and luck! --- are impressive. The panning blur adds to the sense of excitement and emergency we get not only from the identification on the boat but from the focused looks of the EMTs who appear to be within view of their destination and are deep in their adrenaline-fueled thoughts. (I'm an EMT...I feel them.) My eye wants to see the bow of the boat in the left frame...the rest of me is very pleased. Great shot, Matt. Link to comment
Matt Laur 2,201 Posted November 17, 2007 Thanks, Tim! I can tell you that in the normally placid Venetian setting, it's quite exciting to hear one of these crews' sirens echoing down the canals, and then to see them bursting around the corner at full throttle. I thought driving on the autostrada was exciting, but you've gotta watch your gondola when this sort of things breaks loose. Glad you found the shot, and thanks for feeling it with me. Below are a couple from the same sequence, but which didn't rise to quite the same level of quality. Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted November 18, 2007 I see why you chose number 1...more immediacy, closer, in your face...though number 2 is no slouch, and it gets the whole boat! Number 3 loses the urgency altogether (but shows a gondolier!). Number 1 is a split second later than 2, but closer: were you zooming in while firing away? Dang you're good! Thanks for sharing the sequence. Link to comment
