Donna Stavis 0 Posted November 13, 2007 This is frustrating, for I know I'm way off in guessing where this is, but I'm going to try anyway. (I can't help it!) So, My guess is either Zichron Yaakov or Reshon L'tzion because I see a lot of old rabbis (or at least bearded people) in a preservation mosaic probably outside an important building (like a museum or City Hall), and I'm imagining it's from the First Aliyah. (Don't laugh if I'm way off.) I can't read the seals--not clear on my monitor, and I don't know who is in uniform or the central figure on the right (Rothschild? A famous Jewish thinker/politician?) -- I know Rothschild sent over money to finance vineyards and the wine industry. Regardless, there's a juxtaposition of the old with the new--the new being the established trees in a nice-looking, clean, paved area of town, representing comfort and middle class--in the mosaic -- the pioneers--though they suffered horribly--managed to build the first settlements of Israel. So how far off is my guess? Pleasing photograph. Link to comment
