You are standing on the shore of Salt Fork Lake looking into therising sun as it begins to burn off the fog of early morning. I wouldbe interested in knowing if you find this to be an agreeablecomposition.

This image is unmanipultated except for somelevels touch-up in PS. Regards.

The tree conceals a bit of the "hot" sun and makes the whole thing work work well. Excellent exposure with the detail in the foreground grass. The fog over the water is beautiful and the vertical format works very well.

The reproduction of the early morning colors with the burning mist is superb. I like how the reflection of the sun on the lake sets it off. As I have discussed with you before format is everything when it comes to Landscape photography. None of my wide angle Landscapes have the "snap" that yours have and I know its the format plus your use of Velvia 50. Perhaps getting the D3 body will help in that regards.

This is a good use of the portrait composition Walter. Some might differ with the tree in the center, but it would not convey the message I think you intended if placed off-center. The range of tones and the explosive appearance of the hidden sun are awesome. I think there is another composition which could work well and that is cropping the sky to make a square format( that would put the silhouette of the tree square in the middle and may give it additional attention). Your rendition is quite healthy to say the least. Take care,

This image captures my eyes and holds on. Brilliant colors and contrasts. The mist adds great interest. Nicely composed and executed.

Thanks Chris, that is exactly what caught my attention and induced me to make this photograph. This and a somewhat looser crop were the last two frames on the roll in the Big Pup before I called it quits for the morning.

I would also very much like to thank Liz, Mark, Sean, Jim, JM, and Pete for the visits and thoughts! Regards.

Walt, as ever, this is a superbly rendered image. Wonderful saturation and rendition of colours that belies the tricky exposure that this would require. The rising mist adds an air of etherealism, while your positioningas the photographer to get this framing is testimony to your mastery of the format and the use of slide film. It's images like these that inspire me and make membership of this community worth every minute spent here...

Humbly,

Definitely an agreeable 3 layered composition: gorgeous blue sky, orange glowed horizon & sihoulette trees-scape all form into a beautful portrait view. The 'tornando-like" clouds is also beautiful.

Thanks Cherlyn! This and one other similar shot were the last exposures on the roll, as I hiked back to my car I passed by this little tree with the sun behind it and thought "Hey! Let's try this out". I took it about 10 minutes after making this shot (which you have already seen). Regards.

Wow, didn't it all come together nicely in this shot, Walter!? Great sky, beautiful sunrise, a little steam off the lake and a nicely shaped tree. Well done!

Stunning. It could be the first tree God ever made. It sums up all the glory in the way things begin, sunrise to young tree. Love it.
