...the first one was celebrated after WW1, the "war to end all wars".

But wars continued, and millions upon millions have died since. This

image is dedicated to all soldiers of past and current conflicts.

Thank you for your sacrifice. BK

A study released last week from the public non-profit National Alliance to End Homelessness found that former U.S. military personnel now account for 25 percent of the nation's homeless population.

The report also found that the homeless include young veterans who have returned from fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I believe that GWB has mostly talked about supporting our troops and has not mentioned much about supporting our former troops. Thanks for offering up your remembrances. Most of us probably have friends and/or relatives who did not return from one of these events.

Thanks for commenting, Shawn. At least one person on PN who seems to care! Yes, I think we all have friends or relatives touched by war in one way or another. I believe it was George Washington, who said " We can tell the mark of a society by the way it takes care of its Veterans" - a very basic truth. So the statistics mentioned above may be alright with a GWB, but certainly not with a GW - and I personally find them appalling.
