adan1 0 Posted November 5, 2007 A very clever contrast of the traditional and modern - a fading old world being replaced by technological advances and the influence of a global market. As the world becomes more "standardized", would we loose our identity some day? Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted November 5, 2007 Maybe Adan, but the road is empty of cars (pollution, global warming and too high petrol prices !) and people walk. The two only means of transport are the century old tram and the equally old cycle. Only the glamorous lady's face is a sign of modern times. There are still hopes for the future. Thanks for your always thoughts provoking comments. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted November 5, 2007 Like so many good pictures, a one-of-a-kind shot that appears both incongruous and perfectly natural. Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted November 5, 2007 Thanks Jack, I'm sure the guy makes his way between trams several times a day transporting his plastic bags of dried traditonal sea food products. Link to comment
jmcconnell2 0 Posted August 20, 2010 I think the composition would be better without the man on the bike, too many subjects. Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted August 21, 2010 without the man on the bike it would be devoid of meaning... and i would wonder whether the millions have vanished into the bamboo curtain... the tram is hardly occupied... this is indeed a rare facet of HK! Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted August 21, 2010 Good overall scene, interesting because of the contrasts of old and new.Regards,Holger Link to comment

aplumpton 16 Posted July 26, 2012 Fine observation, Anders. The tram probably wasn't retired until fairly recently (less than 20 or 30 years ago, given the ads modern and Western world appearance) but appears quite static and inert compared to the cycler, who uses whatever (safe) routes are available to go about his business. I guess you used a fairly normal or medium telephoto focal length for this, which was likely photographed by you from another passover bridge, or maybe from the vantage position of another retired rail vehicle.
