atanu_ghosh1 0 Posted November 4, 2007 In the animal kingdom, most animals are either harbivorous (eat veggies) or carnivorous (eat meat). There are very few animals or birds which are omnivorous (eat both meat and veggies) and human being is the most notable example such rare species in animal kingdom. This has led to a theory that originally human species must have been either harbivorous or carnivours, but not omnivorous. There are theories supporting either way i.e. those supporting human beings were originally harbivorous and those supporting that we were carnivorous. The supporters of the fact that human beings were originally harbivorous cite the Darwinian theory that human beings evolved from apes (and most apes are veggies, as we know), the fact that human beings cannot run fast unlike the carnivores who have to catch their prey, etc. The supporters of the fact that human beings were orginally carnivores cite cases like smaller length of intestine of human beings, our remnance of canine teeth and the fact that our eyes are in front of our faces like carnivores who have to see the prey in front (vis-a-vis the harbovores who have the eyes on the sides of their faces which enable them to see whether any carnivore is attacking them from the back), etc Of course, some religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism support vegetarianism and these days many celebraties are promoting vegetarianism which promotes them as well as the cause they stand for. Whatever be the conclusion about human race's original food habits, there is absolutely no doubt about one conclusion. That, veggies are more photogenic than meat. I have seen far more beautiful photos of veggies and most photos of meat show some gory sight or incident. I am not sure whether that makes vegeterian people more photogenic than non vegeterian people. By the way, I am personally a die hard non-veggie in my food habit :) Link to comment
John Peri 1,007 Posted November 4, 2007 Well, I don't have to be a veggie to be atttracted to this fruit! It is superbly lit and photographed and it would make anyone's mouth water. I guess you are right. There are other arguments too such as lateral movement of the jaws to grind the food in herbivores which is absent in carnivores, and the absence of digestive enzymes in the saliva of meat eaters which is present in us humans. Carnivores also swallow their food and cope with it in the stomach, we don't have enough acidity to do the work without pre-digestion. I don't think our ancestors had time either to sit down and cook a meal everytime they caught their prey, before becoming one themselves. No, I think that our carnivorous tastes have evolved alongside with our capacity to be aggressive and destructive of each other and our surroundings. Link to comment
