pnital 36 Posted November 3, 2007 This image belongs to my seris of the Ethiopian commuinity that immigrated to Israel.( it is called" To dream and Fulfill", and " My Roots are in Two Different Landscapes" It was done in the years 1999-2000, and is in the ministry of education, as a site with information to help teachers. It is not the full exhibition, but most of it. The full one contains 35-36 photos http://www.snunit.k12.il/sachlav/noar/main/upload/.etiotmunot/ I'm sorry the explanation is in Hebrew. but if you click twice you van see different aspect of the culture. if you have questions, Please ask. It is a hand shake , Ethiopian style. This way of hand shake has two meanings. One is as a gesture of honor. The second: holding the hand in that form means coming with " clean" intentions ,not able to hold arms. Why did I call it PEACE / SHALOM? Because in my eyes it symbolizes peace in its broad meaning. Peace between different human being. Peace and not war. Peace and not discrimination.! Peace as honoring and accepting the other! All is symbolized by the human touch of a hand shake. Thanks Amal! here is what you wanted to know ;-))I will add that it was photographed in an annual meeting of the congregation, that is called "THE SIGD", a meeting for people coming from different far places, and for praying. Guest Guest Posted November 3, 2007 Thanks for the explanation, and thanks for sharing with us. It is certainly worth 7 of something, but not possible to rate correctly using the present ratings parameters. If I had a small comment, I would have placed your name to the left instead of the right, because it interferes with the shadows. And the shadows... I can't stop looking at the shadows. I presume that in the original work, your signature doesn't have this form. - RogerG, The Photographer Who Came From The Cold Link to comment

Donna Stavis 0 Posted November 3, 2007 A most interesting handshake, Pnina. In addition to showing no hidden weapons, it also looks like one could easily pull the other down into battle, showing peace and possibility of war. Powerful. The shadow of the one wearing the blue shirt looks older, heavier-set, slightly stooped. Interesting effect. Joyous occasion, I think and a wonderful moment in history. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 3, 2007 Thanks for looking into it, but it is absolutly no war sign ! only as a honor and clean intentions sign. Link to comment

Jack McRitchie 150 Posted November 6, 2007 Oh, yes! The yearning is so deep in humankind to tear down the walls and greet our brothers and sisters. This picture catches it perfectly; even the shadows participate. Link to comment

Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted November 8, 2007 This is actually the first picture I've seen interpreting this great song by Jimmy Cliff. I feel somewhat guilty because I haven't been as active in the club as I should, but I intend to get back into it. I really like this shot, Pnina, because it portrays the spirit of the song so well, in that it is an image readily recognizable by anyone because of the message it sends. Nice work. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 8, 2007 Adan,Jeff,Alberto, Jack, Mario and Emmanuel, for connecting to this image. There is so much to be done on our glob, to make peace and not war, and put an end to the suffering of so many people. I appreciate your thoughts very much. Link to comment
